How to Fit Aftermarket Indicators on a Triumph 400 (Speed 400, Scrambler 400X) — Step-by-Step
Triumph's 400 series uses a custom indicator shape, so bolting on a normal aftermarket indicator doesn't work out of the box. The fix is a small bolt-on adapter. Here's the full process — it's mechanical, fully reversible, and takes about five minutes.
What you'll need
- Your Triumph 400 (Speed 400, Scrambler 400 X, or any 400-series variant)
- A pair of MotoNyx indicator adapters
- Any aftermarket indicators with a standard stem
- A basic spanner for the mounting nut
Step-by-step
Unplug the stock indicator
Behind the headlamp (front) or under the tail (rear), find the OEM indicator connector and unplug it. On the Triumph 400 series it's a simple push-fit connector — no tools needed for this step. Take a photo first if you want a reference for routing.
Unscrew and remove the OEM indicator
Loosen the mounting nut holding the stock indicator to the bracket and pull the indicator clean off. Keep the nut and any spacer — you won't damage anything, and everything is fully reversible if you ever want the stock indicators back.
Bolt on the MotoNyx adapter
Thread the MotoNyx adapter into the factory indicator mount and snug it down. It's shaped to the Triumph 400's mount geometry, so there's no gap, no wobble, and no shims or zip ties. This is the part that lets any standard aftermarket indicator fit a mount that normally only accepts Triumph's own shape.
Fit your aftermarket indicator and reconnect
Screw your chosen aftermarket indicator (standard stem) into the adapter, route the wire back to the connector, and plug it in. Test the indicators before your first ride. Start to finish, most riders are done in about five minutes per corner.
Does it affect the wiring or warranty?
No. The adapter is purely mechanical — your stock harness and connector stay untouched, so there's nothing to cut or splice and nothing that affects your warranty. If you ever want the OEM indicators back, just reverse the steps.
